Well weather (intended) we like it or not winter is here and with it snow. If you're like me you don't often think about going out in the cold to take photos but with the 'golden' hours happening later in the morning and earlier in the evening during the winter it might not be a a bad idea after all. Really you should be able to have breakfast before you loose that early morning light and you will be home for dinner after the evening sunset.

Telephoto and super telephoto lenses enable photographers to explore a variety of subjects in new ways. Such lenses are often used in wildlife photography, but they can be used for a variety of subjects. Here are 10 tips and ideas for great telephoto photography:

1. Use A Tripod For Sharp Photos

By and large the vast majority of subjects photographed with telephoto and super telephoto lenses need to be tack sharp. Due to the narrow field of view and magnification of telephoto lenses ever so slight movements have an amplified impact diminishing image sharpness. The first thing you can do to ensure that you’ll capture sharp images is to use a tripod and a tripod head that can support the weight of your lens & camera. While this isn’t the only step to take to ensure sharp photos it is the essential first step. Using a tripod or even a monopod will also save your back and arms from unnecessary pain and fatigue.

We had a good day Saturday at the Village of the Arts. Make sure you attend the next meeting to hear about that and other things. Don’t forget to bring your membership forms and of course your money. What’s a meeting and membership sign-up without your money. Kimberly will likely have some forms there in case you forget. We have had some that have sent their new membership forms and dues to me directly and quite a few at the first meeting. Unfortunately I wont be able to make it this time around.

A Couple of things from Wednesday September 9th

Hi Everyone,

I'd like to thank all the members who attended our first meeting last Wednesday night. Look forward to seeing all of you again at the next meeting on September 23rd. Henry's Camera/Headshots Rentals will be putting on a demo.

I mentioned the idea of producing a club wall calendar for the 2010 year. I'd like to get a feeling of how many members would be interested in submitting images, and also the number of members interested in purchasing a calendar(s). We need to get moving on this since it is time sensitive. The price varies depending on the numbers ordered, and prices can change, but a quick break down would be 100 ordered = $9.99 each, 150 ordered = $9.17 each, and 250 ordered would bring it down to $7.39 each. Plus taxes of course. We'll go over this again at the next meeting, but some prior idea of interest would be helpful.

An item missed the other night was the Blue Mountain Foundation’s 17^th Annual Juried Photo Show. Entry deadline is October 31, 2009. Please visit the BMFA website www.BMFA.on.ca for details.

Free Hofer Photograph for one lucky visitor

On September 9th the Art Gallery of Ontario will open a new exhibition anchored by 20 photographs donated by the Campbell family. Long-time supporters of the AGO the Campbell's have decided to help generate interest in the exhibition by holding a draw when the exhibit closes and one lucky visitor will be given Hofer's photograph Universitatsbibliothek, Oslo VI (2000) , and a session with Campbell and an AGO curator to discuss the picture's history and how to care for it.
